Las Vegas Writer's Conference

Two days to go! I'm quite excited. A big thanks to the Henderson Writer's Group for organizing this event! It will be my first conference, and I can't wait to see what's in store. The anticipation is killing me.

I got some great news today! I was randomly selected to meet one-on-one with Larry Brooks at the conference, and we will be going over the first five pages of The Fourth Sundown (that manuscript that I've been working on since sixth grade and hope to finish one day...). The ten-hour deadline to send in my work was pretty nerve-wracking, but I got it done and in, and now I'm just looking forward to learning something from the experience.

Aside from everything I expect to learn from the lectures (and my one-on-one with Mr. Brooks), I'm most excited to get some advice about starting out from those who have come before me. It's one thing to read a book, it's quite another to ask fifty people who give unique, specific answers and are right there to answer my unique questions.

I'm preparing for the conference by creating this website, (in order to have a polished platform to which I can direct contacts that I make at the conference) ordering business cards (for the purpose of directing them to the website), and reading every "Thing to do at/before/about a writer's conference" article I can get my hands on. I'm not sure if this is paranoia, anxiety, overcompensation, or professional. I would hope it's the latter.

If I don't have a full blown panic attack first, I'll be on the plane in 36 hours..... and here comes the panic attack.

Carson Costa

I’ve always been fascinated by stories and the way people of different cultures and backgrounds experience life. I went to the University of Nevada, Reno, and earned my Bachelor’s in Psychology. After graduation, I decided to convert a Ford Transit cargo van into a tiny home and hit the road, pursuing my dream of being a writer full-time. Now I keep a blog about my experience converting and traveling in the van and write short travel articles and book reviews on Medium.com, while working on short stories and novels that range from Epic Fantasy to Urban Fantasy to Realistic Drama Fiction. You can find more information about all my work on my website: www.carsoncosta.com.
